How to Compare Cosmetic Bottle Quotes: Look Beyond the Unit Price
Compare cosmetic bottle quotations on the same specification, including closures, decoration, quantities, tooling, packing and delivery scope.

Two cosmetic bottle quotations can show similar product images and very different prices. Before choosing either offer, check whether they cover the same bottle, closure, decoration, quantity and delivery scope.
A lower unit price is useful only when you understand what it includes. The goal is to compare packaging that meets the same approved requirements.
Put Both Quotations Against One Specification
Create a shared specification and ask each supplier to confirm it. Record any differences instead of assuming that a missing detail is included.
| Item | Details to compare |
|---|---|
| Bottle | Model, material, capacity, dimensions, weight and color |
| Closure | Type, neck specification, components and finish |
| Decoration | Method, artwork, colors, coverage and placement |
| Quantity | Units per model, color and artwork version |
| Samples | Sample type, approval process and charges |
| Tooling | Scope, cost and conditions, where applicable |
| Packing | Protective packaging and carton quantities |
| Delivery | Production schedule, transport scope and delivery terms |
If you have not yet prepared a specification, use our packaging quotation checklist before requesting comparable offers.
Check the Bottle Behind the Photograph
Similar-looking bottles may differ in dimensions, weight, neck specification and usable decoration area.
Ask for the exact model reference and a drawing where available. Confirm how the stated capacity is defined and whether the bottle suits your intended fill quantity.
A heavier bottle is not automatically the better choice. Review whether the proposed construction meets your handling, appearance, filling and shipping requirements. Use physical samples to assess those requirements rather than selecting by weight alone.
For material selection, see our guide to PET, PETG, PP and glass packaging.
Confirm Whether the Closure Is Included
A bottle-only price cannot be compared directly with a quotation for a complete bottle and pump.
Check the closure model and finish, and identify any included parts such as an overcap or liner. For pumps and sprayers, confirm the proposed dispensing specification and dip-tube arrangement.
Evaluate the complete assembly with the actual formula. A closure that fits the neck still needs to meet the product’s dispensing and sealing requirements.
Record the approved closure reference in the order so that the specification does not depend on a photograph or a general description such as “white lotion pump.”
Make Decoration Requirements Explicit
“Custom printing included” leaves too much room for interpretation.
Confirm the decoration method, number of colors, artwork version, position and coverage. Ask whether the price includes artwork preparation, setup and approval samples, or whether those appear as separate charges.
Changes in decoration scope may change the quotation. If one supplier has priced a simple label and another has priced direct printing, request equivalent specifications before comparing the totals.
For preparation details, see our decoration brief guide.
Compare Quantities at the Same Level
Check whether the quoted price applies to the full order or to each individual model, color or artwork version.
An order totaling 10,000 units across several specifications may have different purchasing conditions from 10,000 identical units. Ask each supplier to quote the same quantity breakdown.
At LANYU, minimum quantities depend on the material, model, stock availability and customization requirements. Confirm the applicable minimum for each specification rather than applying one figure to every product.
Separate One-Time Charges from Repeat-Order Costs
List sample, setup and tooling charges separately from the recurring packaging cost.
For a project involving new tooling, clarify what the charge covers, the revision process, maintenance responsibilities and the terms governing future use. Ask which charges would apply again on a repeat order.
This allows you to compare both the first purchase and a later purchase without treating all initial development costs as permanent unit costs.
Calculate the Total Within the Same Delivery Scope
Use the same destination and delivery basis for both offers.
A practical comparison includes:
- Bottles and closures.
- Decoration.
- Applicable setup or tooling charges.
- Protective packing.
- Transport and other costs within the agreed quotation scope.
Identify costs that remain outside each quotation. Do not treat an unquoted freight charge as zero.
For an initial-order comparison, you can divide the total quoted cost by the number of complete packs quoted. Keep one-time charges visible so that you can also assess the expected cost of repeat orders.
Compare Schedule Assumptions
Ask what starts the quoted lead time and which approvals must be completed.
For most styles, LANYU’s typical lead time is approximately 31 days after receipt of the deposit, with the specific schedule confirmed according to the style and customization requirements. Stock dispatch and new mold development require separate confirmation. Transportation time should also be identified separately.
If your launch depends on a fixed arrival date, provide that date and the destination. Confirm the agreed schedule in writing, including any outstanding sample or artwork decisions.
Make Sample Approval Part of the Purchase Decision
A quotation establishes commercial terms; it does not prove that the packaging meets your requirements.
Before placing the production order, evaluate the proposed bottle, closure and decoration. Agree on the relevant checks and retain an approved reference sample.
Also clarify how specification differences or defects would be reported and handled. A clear approval record makes the order easier for both parties to manage.
Our cosmetic packaging sample approval checklist can help structure this review.
Choose the Offer That Meets the Brief
The most useful comparison shows both price and unresolved differences.
If one quotation excludes a component, uses a different finish or leaves delivery costs open, request clarification before deciding. Once both offers cover an acceptable specification and comparable scope, the price comparison becomes meaningful.
Request a Clearly Scoped Quotation
Send LANYU your bottle reference, material preference, capacity, closure requirements, decoration details and quantity breakdown. Include the delivery destination and required timing.
We can review the specification and confirm the applicable minimum quantity, quotation scope and lead time.
Plan your packaging project
Share your bottle requirements, quantity and target delivery date.
